On my last trip and stop in Honduras I met Carlos & Junior in Nacaome – Valle. 2 friends with a mission: to enable children to go to school and get an education. They need school supplies and money to support their vision and work.
I also met Eva in Copán, Comayagua and Tegucigalpa. A dentist with a mission: Eva travels three times a year to the indigenous tribes, to the schools and kindergartens. “This project aims to bring dental health & oral hygiene closer to young children of the nine indigenous peoples of Honduras (Chorti, Garifuna, Islander, Lenca, Miskito, Nahua, Pech, Tawahka and Tolupan) through educational knowledge and demonstration with appropriate techniques of brushes and materials bring and explain the need for daily hygiene on a permanent basis.”
She needs dental care products to support her vision and her work.
Since the last time I said “See you soon!” I keep my promise and say “Soon!” will soon. And not only that. I don’t want to fly with empty hands/suitcases and started a fundraiser 01.2018.
“We live in an educational society and have little or no hurdles to overcome when it comes to attending schools, training courses or courses of study. Children in Honduras, especially in rural regions, are denied this for a variety of reasons. Education determines significantly individual life chances and is understood today as a civil right and even as a human right. At the same time, education is an essential factor for economic development and social integration.”
The children of this world are the doers of tomorrow and decisively determine the face of the earth, the countries and their politics. The fact that changing the current cruel policy in some countries requires a lot of previous education underlines my intention – to enable children to get an education!
So I called out to friends, colleagues/customers and family:
Material and fundraiser flea market – donate what you don’t need and I’ll make money on the flea market and then finance school supplies.
Dental health fundraiser – donates oral hygiene items for children.
The response was enormous and filled an entire stand with junk items. With the active support of my best friend, we actually sold almost everything over several weekends (winter to summer) and turned it into school supplies.
And that’s not all: I received donations in kind in the form of school materials and dental care items. Cases of toothbrush sets for children were donated by a dentist.
Now it was time to stow all this in suitcases and book a plane.
At this point I would like to thank everyone for the many donations in kind and the active support. You have all supported me in my mission and in my growing vision. And above all: The idea became reality!
